General Liability
What's covered by a General Liability Policy?
- General liability: premises liability, personal & advertising injury, and most notably includes product liability, which is coverage for claims from third parties of bodily injury or property damage arising out of the use of your products
- Hired & non-owned auto liability: liability coverage for rental vehicles & employees’ business use of personal vehicles - this is something we love to see on general liability policies; however sometimes it's not feasible and it's available on a standalone (or monoline) basis.
- Umbrella: this policy simply increases the limits of the underlying scheduled liability policies - in some cases, it's not an umbrella policy but an excess policy.
When should a company buy a General Liability Policy?
This is one of the most basic and fundamental parts of your insurance program. It should be purchased once the company is formed and operating, or when products are being sold.
